1. Christmas lights switch-on, various locations, 16 November to 2 December

Surrey’s historic towns and delightful villages play host to a dazzling array of Christmas lights switch on events.
Every location has something unique to offer. Enjoy traditional carols and live entertainment from local schools in Farnham or watch the cast of Snow White perform while enjoying delicious local food and mulled wine at Dorking Halls.
From wreath-making and craft stalls to fun fairs and visits from Santa, these events offer fantastic early evening entertainment for the whole family.

2. A fairy tale Christmas at Polesden Lacey, 25 November to 7 January
Nestled within the Surrey Hills, a fairytale extravaganza awaits you this festive season.
This beautiful National Trust-run Edwardian house and estate will be transformed into a sumptuous Christmas manor, complete with 20ft Christmas tree and immersive fairytale scenes.Â
Watch Cinderella’s pumpkin magically turn into a stunning carriage that whisks her off to meet Prince Charming at the ball. See Peter and Wendy fly off to do battle with Captain Hook in Neverland. Little ones – and grown-ups too! – will be enchanted by Mrs Grenfell’s classic fairy tales.
Book ahead to meet Father Christmas after he scrambles down the chimney at “midnight”.
And don’t forget to wrap up warm as there’s more to explore in the grounds. Follow the fairy tale-inspired Christmas trail and take a ride on the carousel before visiting the cafĂ© for yummy festive favourites and picking up some unique artisan gifts in the Christmas shop.Â
3. Glow at RHS Wisely, 24 November to 2 January

If you’re looking for something a little different, the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is hosting an unmissable evening of illuminations at RHS Garden Wisley, one of the great gardens of the world.
Follow the enchanting trail of light through Wisley’s iconic sights. The Glasshouse Lake will dazzle with disco balls and the Alpine Meadow will become a blazing “field of fire”.Â
Then explore the tempting array of festive food chalets or warm up inside the café and restaurant before stocking up on delicious goodies and quirky gifts in the garden centre.

4. Hampton Court Christmas Fayre, 1 to 3 and 8 to 10 December

Feeling energetic? Then get your skates on! Whether you’re eager to entertain the kids or seeking a romantic winter experience, the Hampton Court Palace outdoor ice rink is a great place to start your time at the fayre.Â

5. Narnia at Hatchlands, throughout December
Take a magical journey through this striking Georgian country home, dressed in all the decorations and glitter of a 1940s Christmas, before stepping through the enchanted wardrobe and finding yourself in a beautiful Narnian wonderland.
Follow in the footsteps of your favourite characters from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as you explore the bewitching parkland trail and enjoy Narnia-inspired activities.
This National Trust event offers a fantastic experience for the whole family. And there’s no need to book, so turn up when the mood takes you and capture some unforgettable memories.Â
